As the first general degree co-educational college in Contai III block in the district of Purba Medinipur, Deshapran Mahavidyalaya always had this goal of catering knowledge to the students. Though the college does not have a long history as it was established only in 2010, but what it lacks in experience, can be fulfilled with earnest endeavor. The institution is committed to the cause of empowerment of students from all sectors including those who are socially and economically deprived of their access to higher education. Keeping in mind the changing contours of education in the current era, the institution aims to become a vibrant knowledge center in teaching, research, and extension activities. Our college is located in a rural district where a major section of the population depends on agriculture and fisheries, a substantial population comes from financially weaker sections of the society. And a significant proportion of our students are first-generation learners. Keeping these issues in mind, our primary target and challenge is to provide our students with the chance for Higher Education at a minimum financial cost, provide them with skill-based training, and also to upgrade them by imparting soft skills. Financial support is ensured to decrease the dropout rate which occurs due to a variety of reasons.
To reach out to the maximum number of students who are generally first-generation learners is a challenge. Here the major section of the students’ community belongs to the rural areas. They are also financially backward. Keeping in mind these factors, our primary aim is to provide opportunities for higher education with minimum cost. Also, the aim is to make them socially enabled to cope up with the modern ways of learning.
Dedicated to serve the new generation of youths in the surrounding areas of the college, Contai III Block, the orthodox teaching practice has been upgraded with the help of digital platforms in this pandemic situation.
During the pandemic situation, the conventional teaching-learning process came to a halt. Thus it has been upgraded to digital platforms to reach out to students even in remote rural areas. Social media platforms are used to communicate with the students, with the aim of imparting quality education and to stop them from going to other costly institutions. It will ultimately benefit the learners and with the aim to reduce dropouts which happen due to various financial and social reasons.
The scholarship help -desk works towards the maximum assistance of the students, as the nodal officer and concerned office staffs guide them for online filling and submission of scholarship applications to different government and non-government agencies.
Along with standard and conventional modes of classroom teaching, the college has successfully used a system in providing e-study materials, virtual classes and online assessments have been conducted using google meet and zoom.
Different Whats App groups of separate departments have used their methods for the interchange of information and as modes of communication with the students.
The official YouTube channel is effectively used as a teaching tool.
Thus, the college tries to blend conventional methods of teaching-learning with digital learning.
Communication and goodwill of the institution have brought an extensive recognition in the adjacent areas through this inclusive teaching environment of the college. Students were able to keep direct contact with their respective teachers to be able to keep consistent updates on classes and other academic purposes like getting e-study materials and more. In spite of interruptions caused due to this pandemic situation, all students were been helped so that they can appear in exams.
All the students residing in remote villages could not be accessed or provided the upgraded digital learning. An individual student monitoring system has to be looked after with care.
