The Department of Philosophy was established in 2010. Our Department Started Only General Course in the same year. Since its inception, the Department has been Striving towards enriching excellence in the domain of Philosophical endeavor and towards knowledge keeping in view the broad vision and mission of the College. We are trying to teach and guide our Students as they Can face all the Social disturbance and Can have the Courage to Combate with it. At Present in Our Syllabus, Some topics are Indian and Western Philosophy, Indian and Western Ethics, Western Logic, Value Education, Environmental Ethics, Great Philosophers Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Rishi Aurobindo also has been added So that Studing those each Student Can become good Citizen in future. Due to severe shortage of funds and space the department does not have a separate seminar/departmental library but the central library has more than 750 titles dedicated to Philosophy studies. Within the strict, limited capacity the department tries to organize students’ seminar and workshops to facilitate the students.
The Department of Philosophy an undergraduate college is a vital academic unit dedicated to the study of literature, language, and communication. Led by passionate faculty members, it provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the English language’s intricacies and cultural significance. Through a diverse curriculum encompassing literary analysis, linguistic theory, and writing skills development, students engage in critical thinking and creative expression.

Philosophy is one of the Oldest Subject of Arts Department. This Subject is taught in all the Colleges under Vidyasagar University. Philosophy is taught as a General Course since the inception of our College. There are many branches in the subject, such as Cosmology, Ontology, Philosophy of mind, epistemology and axiology, by studying these branches well, students gain Comprehensive knowledge about the world and life. Attempts to realize the manifestation, from and ideal of the whole being. Makes a logical inquiry into the world and in life.
Keeping the above view in mind our department try-

Though the admission in the department is done on merit basis, but keeping in view the concept of globalization, the age of electronic media, the best utilization of human resources and social need of the day, students hailed from underprivileged class of this district, have been given special consideration during admission. Apart from this, students having distinction in sports, fine arts, music and students hailing from the adjoining area of the locality of the college, get opportunity to take higher education in this college. The complete admission procedure is online and it adheres to the rules and regulations of Vidyasgar University and the Higher Education Dept., Govt. of West Bengal.

For teaching purpose, the most common method, used by the departmental teachers, is chalk and talk. The departmental teachers use power point presentations, arrange movie and documentary shows. We have one smart class room and other class rooms. Apart from delivering lectures and distributing class notes, students are given different web links to collect study materials (YouTube, Digital Library & Google Classroom). Department prepares a semester wise lesson plan for proper teaching and to complete the allotted syllabus in due time. Students are also encouraged to participate in class seminar and group discussions on a regular basis. As a part of Internal Assessment (10 mark for each Honours & General paper) we take 2 class tests for each honours paper and 2 class test for each General paper.
The Students of this Stream would be enlightened and enriched themselves after completion of the above said course by exercising their rationality by the learners.
