The Department of Geography was established in the year 2013 (B. A. General programme). Department is actively pledged in teaching and research activities in order to provide the needs of today’s changing world. The department has various geographical instrument and the practical facilities, infrastructure that are required for teaching, learning. Department of geography is to promote sustainable solutions to contemporary problems through innovative and effective teaching, research, service and coupled with human environment systems. Due to severe shortage of funds and space the department does not have a separate seminar/departmental library but the central library has more than 300 titles dedicated to Geography studies.
The Department of Sanskrit in an undergraduate college is a vital academic unit dedicated to the study of literature, language, and communication. Led by passionate faculty members, it provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the English language’s intricacies and cultural significance. Through a diverse curriculum encompassing literary analysis, linguistic theory, and writing skills development, students engage in critical thinking and creative expression.

Department of geography plays a primary role in fore casting the future of the environment, as well as in the quest for ways to adapt society to climate change and globalization and to preserve biological and cultural diversity. It is impossible cooperation between social Earth science.
Keeping the above view in mind our department try-
Our programs and curricula will provide a balance of theory and technical skills, equipping students with an academic background the prepares them to address environmental and other geographically – oriented problems.
To make students more equipped with this subject by taking class seminars, class test and by completion of syllabus in due time.
We aim to aid our students in developing the capacity for both innovative and integrative thinking in a variety of professional and intellectual contexts. Our department holds also special classes for the disadvantaged and interested students for better academics performance.
To work as consultants/mentors by the teachers to help the students to fulfill their dream and to motivate them to become ideal human being.# The teachers also try their best to make the whole syllabus clear to them by following question -answer method, charts, maps are frequently used by following question -answer method, peer learning and field work.
To make the students more disciplined and punctual, the teachers act as friend, philosopher and guide. The students are always encouraged to develop their personality through several co-curricular activities.

Though the admission in the department is done on merit basis, but keeping in view the concept of globalization, the age of electronic media, the best utilization of human resources and social need of the day, students hailed from underprivileged class of this district, have been given special consideration during admission. Apart from this, students having distinction in sports, fine arts, music and students hailing from the adjoining area of the locality of the college, get opportunity to take higher education in this college. The complete admission procedure is online and it adheres to the rules and regulations of Vidyasgar University and the Higher Education Dept., Govt. of West Bengal.

Teaching – learning methods in geography must focus on helping learner acquire knowledge and skills in an interactive environment. Geography teacher must clarify concepts through the lived experiences of individuals and communities. For teaching purpose, the most common method, used by the departmental teachers, is chalk and talk. The departmental teachers use power point presentations, maps etc. We have one smart class room and other class rooms. Apart from delivering lectures and distributing class notes, students are given different web links to collect study materials. Department prepares a semester wise lesson plan for proper teaching and to complete the allotted syllabus in due time. Students are also encouraged to participate in class seminar and group discussions on a regular basis. As a part of Internal Assessment (10 mark for General paper) we take 2 class test for each General paper.
The Geography (General &MDS)undergraduate course is designed to introduced students with analyze the earth as an integrated human–environment system by examining changing interactions at different spatial and temporal scales.
Assess the roles of structure, stage and time in shaping the landforms. Helps the students develop their knowledge based spirit and perspective. Prepares the students secure job in different fields.

Students of this department deal with versatile carrier option. Some students opt for higher studies and they are advised to take admission in reputed institutions for conducting their post graduate, M.Ped. For this, students are given the special coaching to solve the previous question papers of entrance examinations conducted by several reputed institutions. Students who have requisite qualities for leadership, qualities of taking instant decision, are being advised to go for administrative service through competitive examinations. which are very helpful for competitive examinations.
